Escherisms

Escher likes eyes these days. He likes to know the color of your eyes. He told me the other day, "I like your eyes, you have pretty eyes." Awww...

Speaking of Awww, is that a curl I see?

Yay! Escher's curls are coming back! We asked him if he wanted us to cut his hair short again and he said, "No, because then I can't do this!" and he proceeded to shake his head from side to side.

He likes to "call people on my ear."

"Hold on let me call Dad on my ear. Dad? Everything ok? Do you know about capsules? Will you talk to me about them please? Thank you."

"Hold on let me call Nee on my ear. Nee? You bring me chic fil a? You bring me chicken and fries and chocowate milk and honey and dunk and a book?"

"Hold on let me call Dad on my ear. Hey Dad? Everything ok? We found a jelly fish at the beach. You come see it? Ok. See you later."

I feel like Escher's play has taken a huge leap these past few weeks. He loves imaginative play with all of his different groups of friends, his animals, his Toy Story guys, his dinos. He gets this silly high pitched voice when he is talking for his toys and I just love it. He is also into search and find books, puzzles, and we are working on sorting things into groups. He also likes to sit with books he knows by heart and read them to himself. His drawing is pretty funny too, I love how he draws people. I'll scan one soon and upload it.

Color Popping Animals

"please mom let's go to hawwis teeter and get some new popping amimals they come in farm packs and africa amimal packs and dinosaurs and SEA CREATURES and they come in capsules that you put in water and they POP into amimals and you PLAY with them and they are so much fun mom come on let's go to the store and get some please."

Gotta love Escher's stream of consciousness...

These are Escher's newest obsession. $1.99 at Harris Teeter. Provides an hour of entertainment for Escher and several hours of picking them up for us parents.

He has started to tear off some of the animals' body parts. He came to me asking if I knew where the pig that had no head was. "You see that pig Mom? The red one that was broken? Its head is broken and gone and I can't find it."

I told him that once he started breaking them they were trash. Picking up 36 or so popping animals is annoying enough, I don't have time to pick up 321245 random body parts!

He must really like them because this morning he told me; "Mom, I love you. You buy me color popping amimals and you fill the sink with warm water so I can watch them pop. Thank you, Mom."

This is Big Tuna. The only color popping animal that Escher will let me play with. So he got a name.

Escher's other new obsession are boxes and containers of some kind. Right now, we have a giant diaper box cut and taped to make a barn (for his "color farm popping amimals" of course), a wine cube box and a KCup box that are makeshift elevators from Toy Story 2, and a diaper wipes box that holds all the popping animals.

Riley at 4 Weeks

Riley has a cute, lopsided smile. She also has a big grin. She gave me one as soon as I put the camera down, the little stinker.

Riley has blue eyes.

She likes to be held.

She likes the early morning.

She loves the beach.

Riley saves her best smiles for her Dad. :-)

How Many Animals?

The other day Escher decided it would be a good idea to throw all of his stuffed "amimals" out of his bed. As he tossed, I counted.

Guess how many stuffed animals and blankets he has.

52.

FIFTY TWO.

Insanity.

The OCD part of me really, REALLY wants to organize them. Have all the lions together, and the elephants together. Or maybe I could sort them by group. Baby amimals, other baby amimals, Madagascar amimals... the possibilities are endless. Fold the blankets nicely and stack them. But whenever I try, Escher always comes and makes a mess of my hard work. Someday, when the urge gets too great, I will waste a whole naptime on it, I know...

Things Are Out of Control When....

You realize your toddler doesn't have pants on.

You think its a good idea to give a 3 yr old a canister of sprinkles.

You don't care that there is a baby tub in your living room. Not for bathing the actual baby but for giving Woody and Buzz and Company a bath because they got dirty at the park.

Playdoh gets left out and hardens.

There are animals everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

Breakfast is eaten picnic style. then forgotten about.

every storage container contains animals of some kind.

And there is a giant tiger in your dining room.

Somehow the baby just sleeps through all the chaos.

Sigh...

I've learned that if I wake up with any sort of agenda on my part, my plans are shot 5 minutes into the day. I'm realizing that if I just go with the flow that things are much easier. Going with the flow basically means doing whatever Escher tells me. So we play, a lot. Upstairs, downstairs, upstairs, downstairs. Playdoh, animals, Curious George, puzzles, books.

I'm realizing that these kidlets will only be young once, and in a few years Escher won't want me in the same room with him, let alone play with him. So on the floor playing is where I spend most of my days. The house can get cleaned later.

Riley at 2 weeks

These were taken last Friday, when Riley was 2 weeks.

Riley loves having her hands near her face. We have started to swaddler her with her left arm out.

This is Riley practicing her Heisman pose.

And she likes to blow bubbles. She's cute :-)
