One Car, Two Car

This morning in the car, Escher and I pulled up behind two cars at a stoplight. He says to me "wook, two cars!" Such a smartie...

On the way home, we saw a truck and a car, and I asked Escher how many cars he saw. He said "wa car, wa twuck." His tone implied that he was letting me know that he knew that there was one car and one truck... like I was trying to trick him into saying two cars! Such a smartie...

Last night while we were cleaning up before bed, I was looking for Hippo and Lion. I asked Escher where they were and he points and says "Right there!" I look and he is pointing to where he precariously balanced them on the edge of the fireplace. Such a smartie...

I thought I had until he was at least 4 or 5 until he turned into Mr. Smartie Pants...

Things You Don’t See Very Often

DSC00268

I did a double take coming down the ramp to the ocean on Saturday.

DSC00274

A couple of the thoughts that went through my head were:

“it totally smells like a real horse”

“why is there a horse on the beach?”

“how did the horse get to the beach? is there a horse ramp somewhere?”

“do you pick up a horses poop with plastic bags on the beach? Or trash bags?" I don’t want to know…”

“how come no one else on the beach seems fazed by the horse?”

“please don’t poop in the water, please don’t poop in the water”

“why, again is there a horse on the beach?”

“is this going to become a common occurence?”

I’m just messing around. I only just now thought of some of those. Smile

But seriously, why is there a horse on the beach?

boat2

Occasionally we get to see a sailboat or two on the ocean. This guy seemed to be enjoying the gorgeous day. Until…

DSC00341

These two fast boats gave him a rockin’.

DSC00252

Its me! You never see pictures of me on the blog because I am always the one behind the camera. My cute little neighbor Cammi snapped this pic on me on the way to the beach. I was trying to smile but I was also wondering why I let a 4 year old have my camera…

cammi1

This is little Miss Cammi. Isn’t she sweet? She and Escher have a lot of fun together!

DSC00254

This might not be the most unusual picture, but I like the contrast in the colors of their clothes. Thanks Matt, and Jason (Cammi’s dad) for letting me take your picture!

DSC00282

There was an air show over the weekend. I had the chance to watch a cool little bi-plane do loops and turns over the ocean. Definitely different!

DSC00558

Now, this IS something you see every day… But capturing its picture is usually pretty difficult. These guys are so fast, they scuttle back to their hole before you can grab them. This little guy, though, was slow. There was something a little off about this guy. Glad I could get his picture though!

Escher, king of his domain, looking down upon all the people that adore him.

truman

I know you see pictures of Truman a lot, but just look at that crazy tail! Now that’s not something you see every day either!

New Memories

new words: wain=rain, ta-co= taco, eeeengo=flamingo, peeeeeng=penguin, quuirl=squirrell, steet=street, bed, fwower=flower, pane=plane, twuck=truck. We are going through an absolute vocabulary explosion, every day he comes out with new words. It really is so impressive to see a child learn to talk!

Escher and I played in the rain this week. it was great! he kept turning his face to the sky to feel the warm rain droplets on his face. I love sharing these new experiences with him!

We also have an apprentice back seat driver! Escher likes to inform me when he sees "CAR!!!! TWUUUUCK!!!" when we are out driving. It threw me for a loop the first time he did it, now I just congratulate his good vision :)

happy friday!

Our World

DSC09973

Its sunsets like this that remind me of how blessed I am to live where I do. The ocean is such a powerful force and I feel honored to share my daily life with it. The ocean has shaped our family! Matt and I both grew up around the water and we love watching Escher have the same childhood. The ocean shows me that my problems are so tiny and insignificant compared to the world. It lets me step back, and realize that what I'm stressed about now might not even be remembered 20 years from now. The beach also helps me appreciate the moment... The warm sun on my skin, hearing the crashing waves, the feel of the sand between my toes. Even just the fresh, salty air invigorates me.

The ocean has many faces and moods.

Having the ocean so close to us is very inspirational. But also very hard. We have a lot of tradeoffs. We live in a tiny, tiny house (that’s old. and needs work. that we have put more work into than any other house we’ve owned). That we rent (from terrible landlords/rental company). Because we can’t afford our own house in this area (because they are ridiculous). We have neighbors that are thisclose to us (thank goodness we like them. most of the time anyway). We live out in the middle of nowhere, it takes forever to get to any grocery store (other than bloom) and matt has a long drive to work (in a car with no radio). But in the end, it is very much worth it for our family to be here. I can’t wait to see what the summer on the beach brings.

A different perspective.

What did he say?

Escher has steadily been acquiring new words lately. And while most of the time we can figure out what in the world he is telling us, sometimes he is talking his own little language. Common phrases heard around the house are:

“Dad fro ball tru?” (“dad throw ball truman”)

“po-giaf po giaf po?” (“hippo giraffe hippo giraffe hippo”= Madagascar Movie)

“baawl waa chawk bawl waa?” (“ball water chalk ball water” = playing outside with a bucket of water and balls. with chalk.)

“ga-paw at home? ga too?” ( “Grandpa at home? Grandma too?”)

“neeepopsneeepopsneeepops” ( “nani pops nani pops nani pops”)

“paaaa? paaa?? with cheee?” (“pasta with cheese”)

“bawl fro ball fro ball?” (“ ball throw ball throw ball”)

I’m sure there are others, I’ll add more as I think of them!

Happy Saturday everyone, Enjoy your weekend Smile

Escher’s Posse

DSC00192

Meet Escher’s Posse. These furry friends go everywhere with our little dude.

DSC00197

This is Floppy and Blankie. Otherwise known as “fwop” and “kie”.

These were the original members of the group of beach bums.

Escher now puts them together and asks for “kie-fwop”

DSC00199

This happy guy is Rex, from Toy Story.

Escher calls him “Rwar”. He likes to carry him around by his tail!

DSC00201

The latest additions to the group are the animals from the movie Madagascar, which Escher is completely obsessed with. He found the DVD case one day and hasn’t stopped carrying it around since! He calls these guys “Bwrah” (zebra) and “wiah” (lion).

DSC00204

But his very favorite (other than kie-fwop) is Giraffe and Hippo, affectionately known as “Gaf-Po”.

DSC00191

These guys have a very special life… They are loved on by the cutest boy ever.

DSC00141

He loves his blankie so much.

DSC00163

And I love those little toes so much!
